Making Progress!

This is Annie, and I'm so proud of her!

Annie started lessons last summer in June. She performed Carol of the Bells in our Christmas Recital! In her lesson this week while playing her next Recital piece, she said, "This feels EASY!!!" It was almost like the song was too easy for her, but it's not. I said, "It's because YOU are LEARNING! You're getting better!"

When Annie started she already knew how to read her treble clef and right hand because of her past experience on accordion! (My mom was the SAME! Treble clef only and accordion! It's still upstairs in a closet!) So for Annie, we are working on supporting her reading and playing in bass clef. We do a lot of supplemental solos with musical patterns that make sense by Robert Vandall. The music is pleasing, beautiful, and fun, and she's getting it!

Right now Annie is also learning the Beatles song, "In My Life." The song is the background of a 2023 Amazon commercial on Youtube called "Joy Ride," where three mature ladies go sledding with new Amazon seat cushions, and suddenly feel like little girls again, laughing and smiling as they slide down the snowy hill! It feels like love and nostalgia, and the video makes me cry every time! Go check it out! Well, this week I taught Annie the fingering of the instrumental passage before the last verse that sounds like Mozart with Alberti bass! Those Beatles guys had a large bag of tricks!
